4/29/2024 0 Comments Nier automata 2b creator assLike all the focus from people on 2B's butt and stuff is skeevy but it's not (usually?) coming from Taro or SE themselves. One thing I will say, I haven't played the game yet (been too busy to start) but honestly as far as I can tell, most of the fanservice/sexual stuff isn't stuff that the game makes a huge point of. If people are given pause then that's totally fine and I can see where they're coming from, and our backgrounds will usually play a role in that too. So personally I don't see this as being too harmful, but yeah, the nice thing about art is there's no one way to interpret it. I get that specifically with high heels there's the counterpoint that men often don't consider just how impractical they are, but on the flipside there is something kinda cool about being able to perform action stunts in them. Inherently there's nothing wrong with that but for sure, it starts getting iffy if it starts manifesting in a harmful way or if overarching trends start cropping up. I feel like at the end of the day at the end of the day it's probably impossible for an artist to not imbue their work with their own personal tastes and preferences. I can for sure see why using the specific phrasing "I just really like girls" might rub one the wrong way. *As a sidenote, you also have the anime neo-nazis championing the game as a victory for their political cause because they get their anime ass without the feminist illuminati taking them away from them or whatever fever delusion they're conjuring in order to justify their misogyny. Besides, this (male) fan behavior isn't exclusive to Nier Automata, but to other games that also present their female characters in a certain manner. But then again, maybe it is simply a game whose one particular aspect is implicitly catering to such tastes and that's that. it can be kind of exclusionary and off-putting to walk into a thread about the game and having some people more or less talk about the protagonist as a 'waifu' and fap-material and what-not. I'm not so much bothered by the heels or whatever, but more about the constant reminder (the leotard/pants butt at all times) of who this game is made for, and the type of fans* it is attracting and the conversations that spawns from it. Good for him and it's nice to see someone who's honest. I think it's pretty ridiculous to act like this answer makes him the Second Coming, though. Going off word of mouth, it seems like he puts thought into it, based off these Adam and Eve whisperings, and the weird, fucked-up nakedness of the ruined android bodies, so that gives me some faith.īut then I look at that weird interview where he talked about Dragon Quest and how he'd make it all dark and fucked up and make the monsters molest girls. Does the honesty excuse it? Is that sex positivity to just admit it's something you like, or is this still flat objectification, even if the character is well written? Is there no room for flashy, impractical outfits that look cool? Does everything always have to be enslaved to function? Obviously sex and sexiness is something that needs to be handled more often in games, and more gracefully, and that's where this example is tricky. I definitely feel like this sort of thing is at least a little more excusable given the honesty, but the issue of practicality does bother me. I'm not sure if I'm being a prude or if I'm being reasonably annoyed, and that's especially muddled given the candidness here. Maybe not in terms of dialogue - I admit I just started the game - but just press R2 to run and put the camera in a neutral, average, slightly above character height position and you're going to be getting a couple of flashes of 2B's thonged ass every couple of seconds. I love 2B's design, but I don't see how people in here are saying it's not sexualized or the game doesn't draw attention to it. I get that it's just good natured ribbing, but all the comments making fun of people who aren't a fan of the heels or costume because, how is this practical for a fighting robot? are being pretty reductive.
